DUBLIN, CA – August 28, 2024 – On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the 2nd Annual Tri-Valley Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit offered over 150 attendees unprecedented expertise on guardrails, bias, privacy, and transparency measures for AI from industry leaders with expertise in AI technology, national security, legislation, and health care applications.

Hosted by Patelco Credit Union and presented by Rezolve.ai and the City of Dublin,  attendees enjoyed  a hosted reception that included facilitated networking with tabletop discussions on transparency, bias, guardrails, privacy, and legislation, facilitated by Cindy Gonzales, Deputy Director, Data Science Institute, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory & Group Leader, Intelligent Detection, Exploitation, and Analysis Group; DV Subramanyam Dronamraju, CEO of Essert; Heidi Lorenzen, Executive Producer, The Humanity Code; Shaila Ruparel, Global Privacy Officer & General Counsel Networking, Coherent Corp.; and Slater Sharp, Science Fellow for the CA Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection, respectively.

Bhavani Palukuri, Vice President of Data and Architecture for Patelco Credit Union, opened the event with a warm welcome to attendees, followed shortly by remarks from the City of Dublin Mayor Michael McCorriston. Mayor McCorriston highlighted the significance of this critical discussion occurring in the Tri-Valley, facilitated by AI experts from the Tri-Valley. He noted, “Our ability to host this discussion here in the Tri-Valley with home grown expertise points to the growing significance of our region in the broader San Francisco and Silicon Valley landscape.”

The keynote event, a panel discussion about the topic, “Making AI Serve Us,” moderated by Saurabh Kumar, CEO of Rezolve.ai, included panelists Chun Jian, CEO and co-founder of Monterey AI; Chiranjeevi “IC” Ikkurthy, Interim IT Administrative Director for Stanford Health Care; and Brian Spears, Director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories AI Incubator.  This was followed by a robust discussion prompted by audience Q&A.

The diversity of backgrounds represented by the panel revealed important perspectives regarding AI safety, including trade-offs between making AI safer to use and the real security threat of over-regulating AI in a way that makes the United States lose the global battle for AI dominance; the inherent need for companies like Monterey AI to offer their customers transparency for how their product data insights in order for their customers to best use them to make decisions; and the importance of having standards and guidelines that are use specific, so that it is easier for AI to be safely and securely implemented in health care.
